OptSuite Documentation Section

This document describes how to set up a development environment for OptSuite.

OptSuite is an Eclipse RCP application so you’ll need the Eclipse SDK to build it and an RCP Target Platform to build against. You can download both at the Eclipse download site. Some of OptSuite’s plugins already use the Java 5.0 syntax and features so I recomend the Sun Java 5.0 SDK.

OptSuite has some dependencies to projects published by the NightLabs GmbH, which are part of the JFire Project. Some additional plugins also bring several other dependencies with them.

It turned out that describing the dependecies and the process of resolving them and setting up a development environment was pretty difficult and resulted in incomprehensible documents. That’s why I decided to document that in form of commented screencasts showing me actually performing the individual tasks.

The first screencast shows how to setup a minimal system, that is a workspace with the mininum of projects that are required to run an instance of OptSuite. Please see OptSuite-Dev-Init (7 MB Flash movie).
